Four Paws Fence Pet Fence Specialists began with a truck and a shovel with no customers in 1994. While I (Paul Mallory - owner) was burying phone lines in Cedar Creek subdivision in Olathe Kansas I saw a few dog fences in the process. I wondered if pet fences actually worked. So I began researching the entire dog fence industry and found that professionally installed electronic pet containment systems actually worked very well while results were not reliable with retail pet fences.
While growing up on the farm and watching multiple dogs get hit on our country roads I only wish I had known about dog fences then. Mom and Dad had to comfort crying children more than once when our beloved pets would be killed after becoming part of the family for years. We rescued so many dogs in the country just to watch them have their life ended by a speeding car. When I was very young I still remember the day the deputy sheriff came speeding down the road and our new little 10 week old puppy ran towards the road before we could catch him. My little puppy did not make it after being run over and I was devastated.
After doing a lot of research I founded Four Paws Fence Pet Fence Specialists in December 1994. My goal was to provide a much needed service to safely contain pets. I was able to install 30 pet fences in 1995. Once our yellow page ad came out in 1996 the phone started ringing and I left my position as foreman for a small utility contractor. As of January 2011 we now have over 3,900 customers and have safely contained over 6,000 pets in the greater Kansas City Metro and beyond.
Thanks to top notch employees and a commitment to customer service we have been able to maintain our A+ (zero complaint) rating with the Better Business Bureau. We owe a gigantic thank you to all of our customers who have trusted our company to keep their family pets safe and who have kept us in business over the years.
When I started the business my wife and I had 2 children and 1 dog. Today (January 2011) we have 10 children and 4 dogs. Yes, life is busier than I could have imagined 16 years ago.
